Robby Johnson releases debut album, "Don't Look Back"

Robby Johnson’s album, Don’t Look Back, is now available.  The album, which debuted in physical form in Johnson's hometown province of Quebec, Canada in November has held steady as the #3 country album in Canada.  Don't Look Back was the number one downloaded country album on iTunes on Tuesday.  Of debuting at #1, Johnson said, "It was like, 'Woah, wait a minute. I'm not Blake Shelton or Luke Bryan.  It's cool to know fans are appreciating the music."

The 13-track album was produced by James Stroud who has previously worked with the likes of Tim McGraw and Chris Young.  Having Stroud on the album was really opened doors as far as song choice was concerned, and helped land Vince Gill on guitar for 'I Ain't the Guy'.  "When we started mixing the song, it wasn't working.  James reached out to Vince and when it came back, we heard what it had been missing," says Johnson.

The album features songwriting from Johnson himself, as well as renowned writers like Shane McNally, Josh Osborne, Trever Rosen, Ashley Gorley, and Sam Hunt to name a few.  For the album, Johnson co-wrote five tracks: 'Don't Look Back', 'I Ain't the Guy', 'Moment', 'Anything but Ordinary', and 'There You Are'.  The album features a mix of sounds, something that Johnson prides himself on, "I don't want to be stuck with one sound.  I want to do whatever I feel like doing.  What's important to me is that the essence and lyrics are country".

Johnson burst onto the country music scene last March when, 'South of Me', his debut single’s music video, went viral and even landed him a coveted slot on The Late Show with David Letterman.  To date, the video has over 2.9 million Youtube views.

Johnson moved to Nashville from French-speaking province of Quebec to pursue a career in country music in 2012.  The biggest adjustment, Johnson says was on his sons.  He says, "Now they're happy about it.  Learning English has opened up the world to them."  Of his new city, Johnson says, "There's so many cool things about Nashville. There's new restaurants opening every week so there's always something new to do."

Johnson is eager to get back on the road.  "That's what I'm most looking forward to is getting out there and performing for the fans," said Johnson.  He's looking forward to returning to Quebec and is working with radio stations across the country to plan his next tour.  Johnson says even his new music is quickly gaining steam.  "The reaction has been awesome.  We have people singing along on the chorus."  Johnson hopes to announce tour dates soon.  In the meantime, check out the third track off the album, 'Shady' was written by Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, and Sam Hunt is a laid-back summer track.
