Check out my favorite spots at Mohegan Sun!

Headed to Mohegan Sun this weekend?  Check out one of my favorite restaurants.

Tuscany - Italian

Tuscany, by world famous chef Todd English offers a wide array of handcrafted pasta.  They have dinner options that includes all the traditional American-Italian delicacies like chicken parm, veal marsala, or rack of lamb.  If you’re looking for a lighter option, I like to split an antipasto with a flatbread.  My favorite flatbread is the Tuscan with prosciutto, rosemary fig jam, and gorgonzola and fontina cheeses.  If you’re there for lunch they have an awesome lunch buffet for $24.95.  My family went to the champagne brunch last time around and was super impressed with the raw bar and was pleased they had such a huge variety.  Its $42 for adults but you probably won’t eat the rest of the day.

Sol Toro – Mexican

Sol de Toro is my favorite spot in Mohegan.  It has a huge variety of tequilas and can make you any kind of fancy cocktails.  They always seem to have friendly bartenders and start you off with hot chips and a great salsa (and you should add tableside guac, obviously).  My recommended menu item is adobo pork tacos (served with cilantro jicama slaw, grilled pineapple, jalapeño ranch)

Chick-fil-a – Fried Chicken

I know, I know.  Not exactly fine dining, but if you get stuck in Friday night traffic, it’s the perfect quick meal.  It’s located right across from the Wolf Den and is a great quick / low cost option.  It’s also right next to Frank Pepe’s pizza if Italian is more your speed.  Plus, think of how much more money you’ll have for the roulette wheel post show.  I fell in love with Chick-fil-a when I lived in North Carolina and I don’t have one close to home so it’s always a treat.  My recommendation is the original chicken sandwich (with pickles of course) and waffle fries with sweet tea.

Tom’s Urban – American Bar Food
Perfect for a quick app or sandwich.  They have a bunch of craft beer options and also make a mean cocktail.  They also have a wide menu of sandwiches, tacos, and pizzas.  Pizzas are a good size for sharing.  My recommendation is to start with the fried pickles and then share BBQ chicken pizza.

Other quick hit Mohegan tips-

*The hotel in the casino is beautiful.  If it’s in your price range, you can’t beat the convenience.  If you’re looking for something a little more cost friendly, the Microtel by Wyndham and the Hampton Inn by Hilton both offer free shuttles.  Both offer free breakfast (continental at Microtel – bagels, toast, cereal, and coffee and full hot buffet at the Hampton Inn – eggs, sausage, potatoes, toast, waffles, bagels, and cereals).  The Hampton Inn is a little further away but also has a great pool area.

*My favorite slot machine is the Double Diamond Deluxe.  Highly recommend.  They can be a little hard to find but the Triple Diamond Deluxe can be used in a pinch.

*There's a great race book with a nice bar full of craft beers.  You can get a free cocktail with an active race ticket so it's worth checking out.  If you're new to race betting, you can never go wrong with Jose or Irad Ortiz.  They're jockeys (and brothers) from Puerto Rico that are among the most consistent in the sport.

*If you’re late to the Wolf Den and it's full, try the bar right behind. Sometimes people move around and you might find your way up to the back wall which is a great view.  Also, standing along the outside of the den by the machines also offers up great acoustics.

*If you have a sweet tooth, check out Carlo’s BakeShop in the Casino of the Earth.
